About
Me
Welcome to my little corner of the internet.
My name is Misty Shwiyyat and I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma with my
hubby, two daughters, two cats, two hamsters, 10 hermit crabs and a
tadpole. :^)
I
love art and I love the process of creating. To take something
from the mind and birth it into existence just amazes me! The
materials I adore the most are glass and metal. I LOVE
silver! I love to melt it, saw it, hammer it, bend it and turn it
into something beautiful. Glass!!! Oh how I love thee! There
is something special about molten glass and to this day I'm still amazed
that I can melt it and manipulate it into something wearable. I
also love gemstones - mother earth ... the ultimate artists.
My
Education
In
January 2002 I took my first metalsmithing class at Tulsa Community College.
I studied
under Bill Derrevere for 4 consecutive
semesters.
My
first lampworking class was in March of 2002 at Tulsa Stained Glass Studio.
I torched on a Hot Head and made lots of fugly beads. That was the beginning of my love affair with glass.
In
2004 I graduated from the Jewelry Technology program that was
offered at Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee. I spent
approximately
2 1/2 years studying the art of creating fine jewelry with
Steven Sherrill as my instructor.
